YONGZHENG SIX-CHARACTER MARK IN UNDERGLAZE BLUE WITHIN A DOUBLE CIRCLE AND POSSIBLY OF THE PERIOD
The high-shouldered body tapering sharply to a bow-string band just above the spreading foot, and with two further bow-string bands encircling the tall neck which rises to a cup-shaped mouth, the exterior covered with a soft lemon-yellow glaze

Other Yongzheng-marked examples of this rare shape, all illustrated in Qingdai Yuyao Ciqi, vol. I, part ii, Beijing, 2005, include a flambé-glazed example with incised four-character seal mark, pp. 298-9, no. 135; a copper-red-glazed example, pp. 40-1, no. 10; a ge-style example, pp. 368-9, no. 170 and a blue and white vase decorated with five-clawed dragons amidst waves, pp. 24-5, no. 2.

A blue and white example was also included in An Exhibition of Important Chinese Ceramics from the Robert Chang Collection, Christie's, London, 2-14 June 1993, pp. 166-7, no. 78; and a flambé-glazed one is illustrated, ibid., pp. 90-1, no. 39. The catalogue notes also discuss the bronze origins of this form.
