AN UNUSUAL FAMILLE ROSE ELEPHANT-FORM VESSEL
QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795)
Modelled in a recumbent position with head turned to the side, the tan body scored in imitation of the hide, arrayed in tassle-hung trappings and a gilt-decorated blanket set beneath a 'cushion' bordered in yellow trefoil fringe and decorated with flower scrolls on a black ground that surround the opening in the back, a 'shagreen' pommel projecting from beneath the front of the 'cushion'
