Lot Essay

Max Esser (1885-1945), a Grand Prix winner of the Exposition International in 1937, for his porcelain sculptor Fish Otter, was a freelance modeller at the Meissen factory from 1920, where he worked in both porcelain and the revived Böttgersteinzeug, a fine grained stoneware based on the 18th century original. This set expresses Esser's individual synthesis of the Rococo Revival and Art Deco styles.
