A CZECH REPUBLIC GLASS BUST-TYPE CHESS SET

In opaque black and frosted glass hues, the pieces portraying political figures, symbols for each piece carved at the front, each piece marked with a butterfly symbol to the back
The king -- 3½in. (8.9cm.); pawn -- 2½in. (6.4cm.) high
Together with an Italian black and white beaded glass chess set and board; another abstract glass bead set; and an aluminium abstact set, one side oxidised (4)

Lot Essay

The Czech glass set was designed by Idenka Juna in 1934 for the Hoffman Factory. The king represents Jan Masaryk (1886-1948), the Czech leader up until the Russian takeover after 1945.
