Lot Essay

The tiny oval medallion stamped HD mark of Henry Dasson is illustrated in D. Ledoux-Lebard, Le Mobilier Français du XIXe Siècle, Paris, 1984, p. 147.

These elegant wall lights are replicas of a Louis XVI model of which several period pairs are known, including a pair sold Christie's, London, 9 December 2004, lot 55. This design was very fashionable and two related patterns are known, the first with only one arm emerging from the mouth of the mask, the other with two arms emerging above the head.
