Lot Essay

After entry to the L'Ecole des Beaux-Arts in 1842, Pierre Loison (1816-1886) debuted at the Paris Salon in 1842, winning a third-class medal which was followed by two first-class medals in 1853 and 1859 - the same year he received the Ordre national de la Légion d'honneur. Prestigious commissions included works for numerous Parisian churches, the Palais des Tuileries and the Louvre.
