A Suit of Armor with a Haramaki Cuirass
Edo period (19th century)
Of hon kozane lacquered black and laced in dark blue with twenty-eight plate suji-bachi lacquered black and with a five-stage gilt-copper tehen kanamono, the bowl mounted with a wide five-lame kasa neck guard with large turnbacks applied with stencilled leather, gilt-copper family crests and decorative silk edging, the peak decorated in the same manner and mounted with a gilt-copper kuwagata-ai carved with chrysanthemums in a stream, and large kuwagata and a gold-lacquer dragon maedate; the haramaki do with six sections of five-lame tassets and with a separate oshitsuke no ita fitted with a five-lame tasset, all tassets highlighted with orange lacing on the bottom lame, the do mounted with gilt-copper hardware carved with chrysanthemums; o-sode fitted with gilt-copper chysanthemum hardware and applied with printed leather on the kanmuri no ita; sleeves with splint plates and chain mail; kozane haidate thigh guards; splint shin guards; one wood storage box; no armor stand
