Meiji period (late 19th century), gilt mark Satsuma Chin Kiyomitsu saku kore and inscribed Kano Harunobu hoga (Assisted in the design by Kano Harunobu), and with red seal Kano Harunobu and red Shimazu family mark
The large ovoid vase designed in polychrome enamels and gilt over a clear, crackled glaze with flying phoenixes carrying stands of chrysanthemums and stylized paulownia flowers and leaves, the shoulder and neck painted with a "cloth" decorated with clouds and a tassled tie, foot with similar clouds, the mouth with a key-fret band
