Edo period (18th-19th century), signed Koma Koryu saku
Designed in gold, silver and red takamaki-e, hiramaki-e with gold foil, shell and gyobu nashiji embellishments against a dense hirame ground with an elephant in trappings supporting a basket of flowers, the reverse with banana trees and rocks, the interiors nashiji; fitted with a coral bead ojime and a kagamibuta netsuke carved on the metal disc in sunken relief with Hotei and a child holding a fan and a bag of jewels, copper and gold highlights, signed Shuraku and with kao (cursive monogram)
