CHÂTEAU FIGEAC IN A RARELY SEEN 1982 VINTAGE FORMAT
Next door to Pomerol, the medieval village of Saint Emilion and its surrounding vineyards hold some of the regions best hidden gems. Up until the early 19th century, 175 acres of this appellation fell under the Figeac manor including the much esteemed Cheval Blanc. Today, though separate estates, the two châteaux share a small gravelly plateau unique within St. Emilion. Remnants of the châteaus former grandeur lie in the many estates which still use the name Figeac as a modifier in their names. Figeac is distinct in its use of the highest percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon used in an appellation known for Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Perhaps this fact explains the estates excellent record for performance in otherwise lesser vintages.

Château Figeac--Vintage 1982
Saint-Emilion, 1er grand cru classé
Level: into neck
Crimson-orange rim. Fabulous perfume, an almost high toned quality to the bouquet. Spicy, minerally, soy like aromas, a tell-tale sign of a hot vintage and concentrated extract. Evolved flavors of dried meat & flowers cloaked in a savory like finish. Fully mature with a great texture. Full bodied and ripe, atypicall so for Figeac. Long, long finish even if a touch spirity. A singular wine of tremendous proportions! Tasted at Christie's Los Angeles, October 25, 2002. ST
