La Tâche--Vintage 1979
Côte de Nuits, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti
"Lalou Bize told me it would be at its best in 20 years time, Aubert de Villaine said 'ten'! Showing well in 1991 at a DRC tasting in New York: boquet fully developed and 'fantastic'; impressively sweet, fullish, very flavoury with good grip and fabulous after taste. Most recently at Wagner's vertical. Aubert de Villaine told us that hail in June reduced the yield to a mere 12 hl/ha. Now a palish, pretty coloured wine; very distinctive fragrance with a touch of malt, which Aubert put down to the tannins; very sweet, very rich, meaty character; great length, very dry finish. Last tasted in Zurich, March 1998 ****" MB Vintage Wine
"Classic La Tâche nose of dried rose petals and plentiful Vosne spice plus notes of hoisin, soy and the initial hints of sous bois lead to pretty, beautifully detailed, elegant flavors that dance across the palate, culminating in fine length. Compared to more robust vintages, this is a lighter wine that delivers much satisfaction via sheer elegance and complexity and I especially admire the sweetness and mouth coating sappiness of the long finish. A very good rather than great LT but one that I always enjoy. Beginning to tire in fifth, drinking well in magnum and in this format, perfect now." Burghound.com, December 6, 1999
