Although Star Trek has often visited contemporary Earth, this film was one of the few times where we saw the near-term future. Star Trek: First Contact showed how humanity survived the horror of nuclear war, and how one man's hard work in the face of adversity opened the door to a better tomorrow for all of humanity.
