The Star Trek: The Next Generation- era Starfleet control panel style is based on the use of sleek, graphic control art on clean acrylic plastic surfaces. This made it relatively easy to reuse control consoles for other ships - and even for alien spacecraft - by simply replacing the backlit graphic art. As a result, relatively few Starfleet control consoles have survived intact. These consoles are among the few that have complete housings, bases, and internal lighting.
