Lot Essay

Most Star Trek: The Next Generation - era Starfleet control consoles used ultra-high tech control surfaces with backlit control graphics. Those panels looked good when filmed on a studio soundstage. But this console was designed to be filmed in the "duck blind" set, which was actually built on location for Star Trek: Insurrection. That meant there was a possibility that this console would be filmed in direct sunlight, rather than under controlled studio lights. Because of this, this panel has silkscreened control graphics, rather than the standard backlit art, making this an unusual example of Starfleet instrumentation.
