Lot Essay

The principal model of the Enterprise-B, seen in Star Trek Generations, was a modification of the Starship Excelsior miniature. In this film, the Enterprise-B encountered a space phenomenon that damaged the ship and swept Captain Kirk into space, presumably to his death. This model was made for an extreme closeup shot of the ship's hull, revealing the dramatic extent of the damage, telling the audience that Kirk had no chance of survival.
