The inspection pod mockup was originally built as the cockpit for Zefram Cochrane's ship in Star Trek: First Contact. A new control console was made for the set's duty as Archer's inspection pod in "Broken Bow" in Star Trek: Enterprise, and it was further upgraded when the set represented the cockpit of the NX test vehicles in "First Flight" in Star Trek: Enterprise. The pilot's control stick is a replica of the rotational hand control stick used by astronauts to pilot the space shuttle.
