In most cases, alien consoles on Star Trek used controls and buttons that were quite similar to those on Federation starships. This was primarily for cost reasons, since the same fabrication techniques were normally used. These Xindi insectoid control pedestals and console from Star Trek: Enterprise were a notable exception. All feature a number of claw-like prop switches that were custom made for the show. Some of the switches on the console were even made so that actors could actually flip the switches as they flew the ship.
