Early in preproduction for Star Trek: Enterprise, the show's producers accepted an invitation from the U.S. Navy to tour an actual nuclear submarine. The stark functionality and efficient space utilization on the Navy vessel helped inspire much of the design of Archer's ship, including the look of this piece of the corridor set.
