The Star Trek art department was known for sneaking subtle jokes into their work, like the Blues Brothers reference on Archer's water polo award certificate, designed by graphic artist Alan Kobayashi. Such gags were usually hidden in tiny text that would not be legible on the television screen. However, Star Trek: Enterprise was the first (and thus far, only) Star Trek series to be produced in high-definition format. This increased the chances of such gags being seen, so the use of jokes in graphics became much less prevalent. As a result, relatively few "gag" graphics exist from that show.
