We first met Surak in "The Savage Curtain" in Star Trek: The Original Series, where he was played by Barry Atwater. In "The Forge" in Star Trek: Enterprise, we learned that Surak's living essence had been hidden in this burial urn, hidden deep in a cave on Vulcan. Surak's katra, portrayed by Bruce Gray in "Awakening" in Star Trek: Enterprise, helped Archer to serve as a catalyst to inspire the Vulcans to return to their core values.
