Many props on Star Trek: Enterprise were designed to look just a little less sophisticated than their counterparts on the original Star Trek series. One major exception was this communicator prop. Back in 1966, Kirk's flip-top communicator looked cool and futuristic. No one ever imagined that Star Trek would still be in production in 2001, when real personal communicators would be commonplace, nor that those cell phones would be even smaller than those used by Kirk and company. But that's why Star Trek: Enterprise property master Craig Binkley needed to make this prop smaller and sleeker than the original.
