The Caretaker's array was a key element in the Star Trek: Voyager pilot movie, and was a surprisingly difficult concept to design. Illustrator Rick Sternbach and other Voyager designers labored for weeks to satisfy the needs of the script, as well as the wishes of the producers and the director. The final version incorporated familiar shapes, punctuated with odd angles and intriguing panel cutouts, creating an unusual silhouette for this important part of the Star Trek: Voyager saga.
