Cardassians were first introduced in "The Wounded," during the third season of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Two years later, they became the featured adversaries on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Cardassian society grew in detail and depth through the years of that series, even as many of its leaders earned their eventual downfall.
