Before Star Trek: The Next Generation began production, Denise Crosby had actually been cast for a different role, that of Counselor Deanna Troi. Marina Sirtis was cast as the ship's security officer. At the last minute, Gene Roddenberry decided to switch the roles, making Marina Sirtis the counselor, and casting Denise Crosby as Tasha Yar.
