Photographic artwork used in the production of the main title sequence of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, high-contrast black-and-white sheet film negatives, most mounted on large -- 12in.-- acetate animation cels for photography on an animation stand, includes art for the show's title, as well as cast and crew credits for the opening, including Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, series star William Shatner, and director Nicholas Meyer, also includes art for an early version of the main title, when the film had been titled Star Trek: The Vengeance of Khan, with some titler's notes (a lot)

Lot Essay

Titles and credits for motion pictures and television are now almost always created with digital composites. Animation cels are no longer generally used for titles, so this art is yet another artifact of a bygone era of filmmaking. The titles for Star Trek II were designed by Don Kracke and Rodger Johnson.
