Lot Essay

Star Trek: The Motion Picture was over ten years in the making. From the moment that The Original Series was cancelled by NBC in 1969, series creator Gene Roddenberry worked to bring the show back. After many false starts and extended periods of inactivity, Star Trek: The Motion Picture began production in August, 1978, for its theatrical release in December, 1979.
