Lot Essay

These triangular badges were first seen in "Court Martial" in Star Trek: The Original Series where their placement on Captain Kirk's dress uniform told us that Kirk, despite his youth, had already won numerous honors from Starfleet Command and the respect of his peers. The dress uniforms and these decorations later appeared in such episodes as "The Menagerie," "Journey to Babel," and "The Savage Curtain." The badges were discovered in a small plastic bag at the bottom of a box of costume supplies from the Star Trek wardrobe department, where they had evidently been stored since the end of Star Trek: The Original Series.
