Lot Essay

William Ware Theiss's Enterprise insignia evolved through each succeeding version of Star Trek. The first major variation was an embroidered emblem designed by Robert Fletcher for Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Fletcher added a colored circle background to Theiss's original design. Starting with Star Trek: The Next Generation, the Starfleet emblem also became a personal communicator device. These later variations were designed by Rick Sternbach, Mike Okuda, and John Eaves.
