James Doohan passed away on July 20, 2005. His appearance in Star Trek Generations was his final on-screen performance as Scotty, although we learened in "Relics" in The Next Generation that his character survived in a transporter beam and was revived in Picard's century. As befitting a legend, Scotty flew off to places unknown in his own ship. Some of Doohan's ashes are scheduled to be launched into space.
