Lot Essay

Robert Fletcher's original Klingon costumes from Star Trek: The Motion Picture are considered by many to be the definitive versions of the warriors' outfits. Fletcher's versions are distinguished by elaborate construction in the leather jackets, using leather strips separated by bands of suede material, providing a slight color contrast, and generally more time-consuming (and therefore more expensive) construction techniques. Fletcher's successors have recognized the extraordinary design and workmanship in these original costumes and continued to use them, over two decades after they were made.
