Lot Essay

The Great Eastern was Isambard Kingdom Brunel's 19,000 ton iron steam liner. She made her maiden transatlantic crossing in 1860. A rather mixed history which included laying the second transatlantic cable and later on as a floating advertising board, she was scrapped in 1888.
