A crest on the center of the lid made up of two shields, one covered with fleur-de-lys and the other with linked chains, surmounted by a crowned knights' helmet supporting a sun, which is being crowned by two cherubs who also hold a ribbon between them inscribed 'NEC PLVRIBVs IMPAR', the initials,' L. Piav' and 'Fecit', etched on either side of the carved fleur-de-lys on front of lid, wide metal bands of iron each terminating with a fleur-de-lys stamp decoratively reinforce the wood carcass, while similar bands are woven together and nailed into place outfitting the interior surfaces, 'L. Piav. Fecit Paris IIs 1671' appears on the right side of the top metal surface of the front side of the box, handles on both
