Female figures representing the three arts on a broken pediment, above a carved frieze supported by two female figures each holding an Ionic capital, centered by a clock face, above an elaborately carved base, with lion feet, clockface inscribed 'PARIS', inside back of clock stamped 'LEMERLE CHARPENTIER FANT DE BRONZED 428 PARIS' and inscribed under the stamp '6701-1'

A related Italian mantel clock, its case also entirely composed of giltwood and of similarly ambitious neo-classical architectural design, was sold Christies, New York, 18 September 1993, lot 84.
