Lot Essay

Pauli considered this monumental woodcut one of the most important prints by Beham and referred to it as 'ein charakteristisches Hauptblatt aus Behams bester Zeit'. He knew only three impressions of this print, one in Munich and two in Vienna (Hofbibliothek and Albertina.) Hollstein records another example in Berlin.
