Perhaps there had been such a luxurious brothel which played a role in Picasso's adolescence in Barcelona..three personages are lost in dreamy memories before this central scene...a young man, handsome and crowned with a wreath of leaves like a Greek god, a painter dressed in 17th century Spanish costume, and a old man lying on his stomach like a baby, bald, plump and somewhat grotesque. May we recongnise in these three figures three images of the artist? (Picasso the Printmaker, Graphics from the Marina Picasso Colection, Brigitte Baer, Dallas Museum of Art, 1983, p. 175)
