with reeded border, the reeded handles terminating in foliage, on four bracket feet, centre inscribed 'To John Reeves Esqr., the first Chief Justice of Newfoundland, from whose administration of justice in the years 1791 & 1792 the greatest benefits have been derived to the Trade & Fishery: The merchants and inhabitants of the island present this and other pieces of plate as a testimony of their high respect for his character, and as a memorial of the advantages they continue to experience from his exertions. St. Johns, Newfoundland, Decr. 20th. 1799'

[and] A 75-piece George III silver flatware service of Old English pattern, Mark of Eley & Fearn, London, 1800 (excepting three dessert spoons by Thomas Barker, London 1819/24), each inscribed "N.F.L" for Newfoundland, together with, 35 table knives, 9 cheese knives and 12 three-pronged table forks, mark of Robert Tricket & Co., Sheffield, circa 1790, with tapering faceted handles and steel blades and tines, blades with cutler's stamp BARNARD (78)
