Château d'Yquem--Vintage 1811
Sauternes, 1er grand cru classé
Believed recorked. New capsule. Irregular shaped, sloped-shouldered, moulded bottle. Straited neck grooves. Plain parchment label, faded with damage to left and right edges. Level approximately 4cms below cork equivalent to top-shoulder. Attractive dark amber colour.
Purchased by the current owner from a leading London merchant in the early 1990's and stored since in a professional storage facility

Tasting Note: First tasted at the Château in 1986. Contemporary hand blown bottle, labelled 'Château Yquem, Marquis A M de Lur Saluces, 1811, Grand Vin Sauternes'. Blackened cork. Wine a lovely colour; raisiny, still sweet. Nine years later at Rodenstock's 16th annual rare wine tasting. Worn label. Gold; high-toned apricot; barley sugar flavour with aggressive acidity. Most recently, similar label to the bottle noted in 1986: sweet scent. It reminded me of raspberries and cream, Considerable depth and length. Dry finish. Last tasted Sept 1998 **** M.B.
