Lot Essay

Rolex introduced the "Prince" model of wristwatch in 1928. The strategic placement of the winding and balance wheels on different levels allowed for the use of a larger balance. This innovation provided for a watch that proved to be among the most accurate of its day. The "Prince Brancard" model, the reference 971, was one of the first two "Prince" models to be introduced and at its debut it retailed for more than its counterparts due to the flared sides.
