Prominent themes of nature first emerged in Van Cleef & Arpels' designs during the late 1930's and continued to flourish throughout the firm's history. The multi-function of this piece was also a concept incorporated into the Van Cleef & Arpels designs in the 1920's, and which is characteristic of many of the House's creations today.
