FIRST EDITION, the second and last edition was published in 1806. After spending nearly 20 years in Italy, Clérisseau, a French architect, archeologist and painter, returned to France in 1767. He then began his long planned study of the Roman ruins in southern France. He, however, only produced volume I, on Nimes. Brunet II, 106.
