Lot Essay

In 1936 the KPM (Koninklijke Nederlandsche Paketvaart Maatschappij Amsterdam) appointed Adolf Lion Cachet to advise the department of naval architecture on the interior decoration of three ships: the 'Tegelberg', the 'Boissevain' and the 'Maetsycker'.
For the 'Tegelberg' Lion Cachet designed, in cooperation with the firm of Hillen, the dining-room, the music-room and the vestibule. The music-room was the most luxurious of the three with richer and more colourfull decorations. For this room Leo Gestel designed a carpet which was placed in the centre.
