A FRENCH ORMOLU-MOUNTED PARIS VASE AND COVER
Circa 1790, the finial possibly a later replacement
Painted with flowers issuing from a trumpet-mouth urn supported on a gilt stem, the cover and lower portion with radiating sprays of gilt grasses and flower sprigs, the oviform vase supported between three tripod legs extending into eagle heads issuing from acanthus leaves and suspending chains, each raised on a barley-twist column terminating in an acanthus scroll foot, a tripod stretcher joining the feet and gripping a stepped circular porcelain base set within a gilt-bronze bezel atop a further white marble circular base, itself within a beaded bezel, raised on three spiral-fluted bun feet, a second chain swag suspended between bosses alternate with the eagle heads, the cover with ormolu finial and threaded rim designed to screw into the ormolu shoulder
