A PAIR OF HELLENISTIC GOLD AND ENAMEL SWAN EARRINGS
CIRCA 2ND CENTURY B.C.
Consisting of a gold rosette disc with central circular enamel inlay set within gold filigree border, below hangs a pendant figure of a swan in white enamel over a gold core, heads turned to one side, the eyes, beak, collar, wings, feet and tail feathers in sheet gold and gold wire, standing on square-shaped sheet gold bases, on either side hang two gold chains, one threaded with gold beads and terminating in filigree flower, the inner of loop-in-loop gold wire terminating in granulated triangular-shaped pendant, behind the disc a long ear hook, one now straightened, some restoration to enamel

Acquired in the 1980s from a private collector in Krefeld, Germany, who had previously acquired the earrings in the 1970s.
