A COPTIC TEXTILE TUNIC FRAGMENT
CIRCA 5TH-7TH CENTURY A.D.
The square panel in dark purple with details in cream, the central medallion with nereid riding a sea monster, surrounded by a circle of ten figures enclosed within a stylised foliate border, the whole surrounded by a wave pattern border with stylized figures and fish(?) in each corner, the panel sewn into undyed surround, four sides with a raised rope edge; and another Coptic tunic fragment with neck border and short clavi ending in leaf-shaped terminals, perhaps from a child's tunic, the whole with dark geometric designs, with wave borders, the lower register woven with "IWKWA", circa 6th-7th Century A.D., both mounted and framed
