Lot Essay

The colouring of this yastik is unusual. The more common colourways include green and red velvet grounds. The design with its double border suggests a date around 1730-40, similar to that illustrated in Turkish Velvet Cushion Covers by Jennifer Wearden, Victoria & Albert Museum as Catalogue Number 13.
