Also known as On the Sandman's Trail, an example of the present model was acquired by the Art Institute of Chicago in 1915. Bessie Potter Vonnoh was a member of Lorado Taft's famous group of assistants known as the "White Rabbits," who assisted the sculptor with his large-scale pieces at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair Exhibition. Known for her elegant portrayal of female subjects, Vonnoh's bronzes became highly sought after among both American and European collectors.
