NISHAPUR OR SAMARKAND, NORTH EAST IRAN OR CENTRAL ASIA, 10TH CENTURY
On short foot, the interior white ground with a central roundel containing scrolling leafy motifs outlined in red on a black dotted ground, the sides with part of the same bowl with a very elegant Eastern kufic inscription, the interstices filled with panels of dotted motifs, together with part of a bowl with very similar motifs, and small fragments of one or possibly two other calligraphic bowls, the exterior with vertical bands of kufic alternating with bands of meandering vine issuing red and black ribbons
