Lot Essay

The heavy potting with dense body, the broad foot ring, the pronounced craquelure and the slightly runny blue colour, coiupled with this border design all indicate that this is a product of Tabriz (Lisa Golombek, Robert B. Mason and Gauvin A. Bailey, Tamerlane's Tableware, Ontario, 1996). A dish with a denser version of a very similar design, also attributed to Tabriz, is in the Harvard University Museum (Golombek et al, op.cit, pl.62, p.219).
