Although the 18th century margins are trimmed, enough remain to reveal that it must once have been part of the Warren Hastings Album (see Sotheby's Bibliotheca Phillippica sale, 27 November 194, lots 790-813).
Calligraphic leaves by the 16th century Safavid calligrapher Mir 'Ali were popular in Mughal India and formed the basis for several albums.
