This is medical compendium is divided into nine books, to which a tenth book on simple and compound medicines was later added. Although based on Ibn Sina's Qanun fi'l tibb, Al-Jurjani added to it with his own extensive knowledge of contemporary medicine.

Al-Jurjani is recorded as the first notable physician who wrote in Persian. His other well-known medical works are Yadigar-i tibb (Medical Memoranda) and Aghrad al-tibb (The Aims of Medicine). See Seyyed Hossein Nasr, Islamic Science, Westerham, 1976, p.182
